She was born in 1958 in Ortigia, Siracusa, in her family house near the sea. She started free-diving for fun with her sister Rossana, but after a while she began playing competitive sport: with 20 years she achieved a -35 m record - constant weight- , the next year she improved it with -40.
In the meanwhile she set up her family: a husband, 2 children. However, she improved her achievement with a -70 record in 1987 - variable weight.
While she enjoyed free-diving, she also understood how dangerous the sea was and started to speak against its threats: "Today all these beautiful colours are threatened in the name of a nonsense and false development. Now I´m going to fight with all my strengths for the protection of sea areas and the countryside since I want to prevent colours like green and blue from becoming grey or black."
As a scuba diver, she was the patroness of an exhibition of suba photographs on the oil tanker Milford Haven that sank in 1991 in the waters of Arenzano.
This year she has started the collaboration with the magazine Mondo Sommerso.
